Dear Neighbors,

Three updates on neighborhood trees:

  1. Six years ago today Joel Andersen began clear-cutting 50+ trees from the 4.8 acres that became the Nelson Meadow subdivision. This action did considerable environmental damage. Please let us not forget!

  2. Per Village Council decision, revised permit applications have been submitted for the detention pond and three Carpenter Street homes. These applications are being reviewed by Village staff. Among the unresolved issues is the protection of the remaining black walnut trees south of the detention pond at 5800 Carpenter Street. A letter from Edith Makra of the Morton Arboretum defined an 18-foot protection zone; the developer proposes zero or much less.

  3. Unrelated to the subdivision, the Village forester has recommended that one damaged tree be removed from the Brookbank Road right-of-way. You may have seen the yellow warning tape in the area. According to a message left for Rick O'Halloran, the Village will remove the tree, grind down the stump, and place sod.

Sincerely,
